Media Relations Manager (Contract)

This is a rare opportunity to join the Up Growth Team on our journey to make Up the most loved app in the land.

The Gig

The Up Growth Team makes it so that more Australians know Up exists and can use it to improve their financial lives.

In this initial contract (with a view to extending or joining the team longer term), you will work closely with our content and communications lead, and work in the wider Up Growth team.

You will co-create and pitch stories to secure public interest. You will help design and implement significant product launches, capturing what’s exciting about them and securing articles, interviews, organising events, stories and appearances for our team.

You will create content designed to improve the financial wellbeing of Upsiders and the profile of Up, taking ownership of one whole content stream or series which you will co-design. This could be, for example, video production of interviews with Upsiders; but it could be something else that speaks to your own mix of creative and PR talents.

You will identify the right outlets and build relationships with media outlets currently outside our network, identifying key targets for consumer media and achieving cut through. What media could work well for Up and how would we best get there?

You will co-design the future of media engagement for Up: where we want to be positioned, and how to get there.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is a Melbourne-based PR professional with experience working both on and off the ‘print media and TV’ beaten track.
  • Has an interest in alternative culture and a knack for people.
  • Is comfortable picking up the phone to pitch an idea; knows how to build and maintain relationships with media; has existing relationships that could be leveraged to grow Up.
  • Has some event planning experience.
  • Writes clearly and have some creative skills too (e.g. in video, podcasting, art or something else). And has ideas that could help build our native content streams at the same time as you build our profile in the wider media landscape.
  • Can contribute to a strategy for taking Up to the next level. Ever wanted to write your own job description? Today’s the day.

In essence, you’re an energetic all-rounder who can demonstrate a deep interest in content and experiences that fall outside the regular PR box. You should have proven PR knowledge and skills, but we know there can be a wide variety of ways you might substantiate those things, so pitch us!
